Wow...Craziness!!!!

Wake up 5:30am, it's peaceful, the sky is still dark, and silence fills my surroudings...but not for long. In a few minutes, I will use my great strength to get the generater started, where it will hum all day without flaw while I chop, bake and cook all day until the planters get home from work, I clean up and head to bed when at 11:00 I am able to turn off the power for some tranquility for a few minutes.
That is the way that it is supposed to be out here, but not that it ever really turns out that way!
This past week was a bit of a nightmare in terms of equipment functioning.
I woke up one morning, the boys to turn the generator on, made breakfast, started lunch when at about 10:00 am I hear TERRIBLE noises coming from outside. The generator starts clanging and banging, while at the same time, the back room is filling with powdered smoke. I dash outside to shut off the generater. So...while all this is going on the water has been shutting on and off all day as well, making my job a little more stressful than usual. Luckily I filled up a few pots of water so that we can boil up rice for dinner!!
It turns out that the motor on the water pump has burnt out, and that a piece has fallen into the generator, and we are going to need a new one! SWEET...this means I had to boil all the water for the day for dishes, and everything, making cleaning very difficult, as well I had to prepare breakfast by headlamp because I am imcapable of starting the generater by myself now!!! I enjoyed preparing breakfast in some peace and quiet, but was very glad to get the generator and new pump installed!!!
Sooo...This weekend I was a little more glad to head off camp for a bit of relaxation!
What a better way to spend the weekend than at a little Atikokan hide-a-way, with a SAUNA!!! I thouroughly enjoyed this weekend and feel refreshed ready to tackle whatever events this week will bring!
Anyways...I've got to get back to the kitchen. I think I'm going to go for a little jog this afternoon as it is BEAUTIFUL out today! We havn't had a whole lot of sun since we've gotten here, so I'm going to take advantage of it!
Hope you're all doing well, and I hope to hear from you soon

Week #1 Highlights

Hey All,
Well I guess it's about time for an update as I've been out here for 2 weeks!
Life in the bush is GREAT!!! I'm having lots of fun cooking, the planters are neat, and everyone is getting along just fine! Jussie is also doing well, and getting the hang of planting!
We spent the weekend at The Janssens' where lots of fun was had. I did my second grocery shop of the contract, and then we headed back out to camp on Monday night! It is now Wednesday afternoon, and the ham is in the oven and I will soon need to go get my laundry out of the washing machine. This is not exactly a bush camp we're in. It's pretty cushy, but it is in the wilderness none the less. I will soon put some pictures up. One highlight of the week last week was getting within 15 ft of a fox, in time to catch a picture. It turned around just in time as the flash went off. I hope to get that picture and a few others of my new habitat up for your viewing!
Anyways, that's about all I've got for now, I have a few more things I need to get finished before the planters come home for dinner.
Take care,
Maggie
